Effective January 2025, the Credit Information Bureau (India) Limited (CIBIL) has come up with the new set of rules that should be followed to make the process of credit scoring more transparent, impartial and friendly to the borrower. The changes are set out to enable people to enhance the knowledge of their credit health and to access loans and financial products easier.
What Is CIBIL Score?
CIBIL score is a three digit number that varies between 300 to 900 and it determines whether or not you are a creditworthy person. This score is used by the banks and lenders in making decisions on approval of loans, credit cards or mortgages. The higher the score the more likely you will incur favorable terms of approval.
Key Changes in 2025
The new regulations target the enhancement of precision and decrease the influence of a small time lag. Real- time update will now be made available by CIBIL, and the borrowers will be more in control when it comes to the resolving of disputes. Payment late by below 500(Marque) rupees will not impact your score anymore and authorized credit requests will be recorded independently of the hard requests.
Updated Scoring Criteria
CIBIL has revised its scoring model to reflect more realistic financial behavior. Here’s how the new weightage looks:
Credit Factor | Old Weightage (%) | New Weightage (%) |
---|---|---|
Payment History | 35 | 30 |
Credit Utilization | 30 | 25 |
Credit Mix | 10 | 15 |
Length of Credit History | 15 | 20 |
New Credit Inquiries | 10 | 10 |
This new model rewards long-term credit discipline and reduces penalties for short-term financial stress.
Free Monthly Score Access
All individuals, can receive a free CIBIL score check, once monthly under their 2025 guidelines. The source of free reports previously was limited to one free report per annum. The alteration will enable users to check the health of their credits on a regular basis to ensure that the appropriate action is taken when there is a necessity.
Dispute Resolution Made Easier
Borrowers have now been able to pick up disputes directly on cibil portal with a reduced turn around time. The delays that take place will be resolved in 15 working days, unlike formerly where the target was 30 working days. This helps in making sure that inaccuracies on credit reports are not allowed to hang on around to influence loan borrowing decisions.
Final Thoughts
As a measure to make the credit scoring increasingly transparent and borrower-friendly, the CIBIL Score Rules 2025 are enacted. Through the live updates, swallowing up of severe penalties and enhancing the access to credit report individuals are now able to manage their expenditure position more legitimately. There is more transparency and control between these changes whether you are getting a loan or you just to track your score.
